Whether making an update, writing a new blog post, or utilizing AI to put together your thoughts, focusing on these items will help bring visibility (and users) to your website:

1. A Target Keyword or Phrase

Your content should be built around a carefully chosen keyword or phrase that aligns with what your target audience is searching for. Think about a specific search query – it could be a phrase or a question – and write something that would be in response to that query. If you do this successfully, you’ll find that connecting with your audience goes hand in hand with optimizing your content for visibility.

How

  • Choose a unique keyword or phrase that isn’t already heavily used on another page of your website
  • Use tools like Google Ads Keyword Planner or SEMrush to analyze keyword search volume, difficulty, and competitor keywords

Example

  • Custom Elementor Form

2. An H1 / Page Title

Your H1 is the top heading on the page and should indicate what your page is about. I liken an H1 to the primary topic of a research paper. Your H1 heading is typically the largest and most prominent copy on your page, and similarly, its impact on SEO is also outsized.

How

  • Your target keyword should be included in the H1
  • Use the <H1> tag in your HTML
  • There should be only one H1 per page

Example

3. Meta Title & Description

Although metas do not appear on your page itself, they are crawled by the search engines and appear in search engine results and therefore they impact click-through rates from your organic listings. Matching them closely to your target keyword helps them stand out to the user searching as well as the crawlers looking for relevance.

How

  • Include your target keyword in your meta title and/or description (if possible within the beginning of your title)
  • The meta title and description should be concise and compelling
  • Follow Google’s character limits to avoid your metas being truncated

Example

  • Meta title: How to Code Custom Elementor Form Actions | Solid Digital
  • Meta description: The Elementor Form Builder has some built-in actions you can run after a form is submitted. This post describes how to create your own Elementor Form Actions

4. H2 and H3 Subheadings

While your H1 is your main topic, H2s and H3s provide additional structure to your content serving as sub-topics. H2s are subheadings, followed in importance by H3s (supporting subheadings). Using related and supporting keywords in your subheadings adds more support to your claim that this page really is focused on your target keyword phrase.

How

  • Include related and secondary keywords in H2s and H3s
  • Consider that subheadings should also improve readability for a better experience for your readers

Example

  • Success Image
  • Error Handling

5. Unique On-Page Content

Search engines penalize duplicate content, so make sure every page has original copy. In addition to SEO, you want your content to be engaging and relevant to your audience which can feel like a balancing act.

How

  • Incorporate your target keyword or phrase two to three times on the page
  • There is no one size fits all approach for the length of content or type that works best. Try testing variations such as longer and shorter blogs and Q&A-style content to see what works best for your website users and search engine rankings.

Example

6. Internal Links

Internal links are sometimes referred to as contextual links. Search crawlers judge that your most linked-to pages are your most important. In addition, the words you use in the anchor text is seen as an indication of what that page is about – adding to SEO you’ve already performed on the page itself.

How

  • Link to related pages to signal their relevance and help lift their SEO.
  • Use descriptive anchor text that contains that page’s target keyword instead of generic phrases like “click here.”

Example

7. Alt Image Tags

Alt image text is another element that lives within the back-end of your website but isn’t seen by the reader. It is a description of an on-page image and improves both SEO and accessibility (because it is read aloud by screen reader tools for visually impaired users).

How

  • Include keywords in image descriptions
  • Keep descriptions short and concise

Example

  • Creating custom Elementor form actions
  • Drop down menu
