What is a Cookie?

A cookie is a small piece of data that a website sends to a user’s browser, which the browser can store and send back to the website. Cookies allow websites to remember information about a user’s visit, such as preferences, shopping cart contents, and login credentials. Advertisers can also use cookies to track user activity across sites. There are several types of cookies: first-party cookies and third-party cookies. First-party cookies are collected by your organization while third party cookies can track users across multiple websites and devices to create more targeted ads. Third-party cookies are often the subject of privacy concerns. Some technology companies have restricted or banned them on their platforms and US cookie laws continue to evolve.
